Back In The Saddle

Here I go again. That last attempt at maintaining a blog was pretty lame I know but "if at first you don't succeed...".

So here is what's been happening with me of late. Softball has started back and Josh and I are about as "over it" as two people can be. I can almost guarantee this will be our last season for a while. It's just too much of an obligation with all of the extra things the team requires. See, I'm very much a team player, so when the team decides we are going to do something I almost HAVE to do it, even though I think it's a bad idea or it's not something I WANT to do. Anyway... the team is doing better this season than I thought we would so that's good.

On to other news. Josh and I went to the island of Kauai for a week at the beginning of May and had a wonderful time. I really do think it's the most beautiful place I've ever seen. And who can complain about a year round average temperature of 80°? We spent the week visiting my Mom and her husband (we call them The Costanza's because they are loud and bicker constantly) and running all around the island taking in every site possible. Josh has already convinced his parents that they must go to Hawaii and take us back with them.

4 days after we got home we had to leave again to head down to Rosemary Beach. A friend of Josh's was getting married and Josh was recruited to cook for the Bridesmaids Brunch. In turn we got to stay in a fantastic beach house and continue to build our summer tans. The luncheon and the whole wedding went off without a hitch. Perfect weather, great food, great family, beautiful service and a wonderful couple. Congratulations Kelly and Ricky!

Unfortunately we came home to a dead refrigerator. This is our latest adventure. Keep your fingers crossed that tonight the repairman gets it up and running again. I'm tired of eating out.

Because you demanded it!!

I know I've been slack on this lately but you really can't blame me. It's that time of year where everything is in flux. The crazy, hectic, party-party-party schedule of the holidays is over. The summer is around the corner but I didn't bring my periscope to see it yet, so that's just frustrating. The weather is crazy. Sports (the ones I watch anyway) have ended or not quite started yet.

There's VERY LITTLE to do.

Work is the same ole same ole. (Even though I'm trying to teach myself new things)

The gym is boring as all-get-out and holds ZERO interest for me right now. (except for this gut that keeps getting in my way... I have to push it under the desk so I can type this!!)

Television has ROYALLY sucked of late.

I've got book club tonight and that should be fun but the book we just read was about a German woman stuck in Berlin at the end of World War II when the Russians came through and basically "had" every woman they could find. (I think it was endowed the "Feel Good Book of the Year") Seriously... 261 pages about starvation and rape!! Good times!!

The only thing of real excitement was Valentine's Day but no one wants to hear anybody have diarrhea of the mouth about how wonderful their significant other is. (I don't at least) Usually when that happens it either depresses the listener or makes them think you're overcompensating for a lull in the relationship. Squirrel is great. Everyone knows it... blah blah blah.

I did get penis spaghetti though!!!

So now I challenge all of you! Give me something fun to do and I'll tell you all about it. And I'm not talking about just throwing out suggestions. Amy... let's hang!! Beard and Kelly... we gotta bridge the distance somehow... Jessica and Kristi... oh geez... I just remembered... Have you heard from MMF?!! Maybe THAT NIGHT will be my next entry?!!

New Old Friends

This weekend Josh and I met up with Kristi Austin and Jessica Cox for dinner. I didn't know when we agreed to go that a couple of other girls from high school were going to be attending as well. It's very interesting to me how we all went through the same school and yet our experiences there were, for the most part, completely different. And here, 20 years later, it's like we were there yesterday and we have homework due in the morning. We had a blast! After dinner we headed down to Lou's Pub which is now owned by one Michael Carpri, a fellow Carrollite. A better time could not be had anywhere... he even had old yearbooks stuffed behind the bar! Thanks Mike!!

Needless to say that after our festivities on Saturday it was difficult to get up and get moving on Sunday. Movement, however, was exactly what was on the agenda. It was our first day back at softball practice. I'm still not positive I want to play this year. I love the game but there is so much crap that goes along with a "community league". They have already hit us up to sell (ugly-ass) T-Shirts and ads for a program that no one will read. Don't worry, I'm not going to hit you up. Why can't they just say it will cost you blank amount to play for the season and have us write a check? Why must I try to peddle poor products to my friends?! It angers me. There is a reason why I don't have a career in sales. I'm not very good at talking people in to buying things they don't need... unless it's one more drink before they go.

Christmas (late) with Porter

I had another really slow day at the office today. This really needs to change... NOW! It's scary when you start searching youtube videos and they ALL say "previously viewed". However, in my defense, I do tend to find a subject and obsess over it pretty hard. Right now it's Bare: A Pop Opera, and Spring Awakening. I can't get enough.

My brother and sister-in-law came over last night for dinner and brought my nephew Porter with them. We were finally able to give Porter his Christmas presents. He's getting pretty big. Luckily everything we got him still fit. He seems to be fully recovered from his rough start in the NICU. It was really nice to have them over.

Free Beer Friday is about to start here at the office. That marks the official beginning of the weekend for me. Josh and I are meeting Jessica and Kristi for dinner tomorrow night at the Iguana Grill in Hoover and then we have softball practice on Sunday. That's the extent of our weekend plans so far.

This is a video from the recording of the studio album of Bare: A Pop Opera. The song is called Role Of A Lifetime and it's sung by Matt Doyle. We saw him in the Broadway cast of Spring Awakening last week and he was outstanding. I don't know why the video keeps posting twice. I'm new at this.

The View

I record The View every day and for the most part really enjoy the show. Josh refers to it as my "lady news". I like to hear the discussions in their Hot Topics segment. The guest interviews feel ridiculous with the hosts each reading their question off of a card. Through the entire election process and even back before then when Rosie was moderating, I thought the conversations were, for me, informative. Sometimes I even agree with Elizabeth Hasslebeck, albeit not often.

Last night Josh was out to dinner with some co-workers and I had the couch to myself. I sat down with a bowl of soup and began watching that mornings show. I have noticed on numerous occasions that their "guests" often complain about or at least comment on the seating area. Things like how hard it is... or it's teetering on the back edge of a riser and their afraid it's going to fall. Well I would like to add that it could be built for an adult instead of someone who's 5'3".

Sigourney Weaver was their guest yesterday. She stands about 5'11" tall. I'm guessing that is without heels. Well yesterday she had the hardest time feeling comfortable on that make-shift sofa. She fidgeted from the moment she sat down. I felt so bad for her. Within' the first 15 seconds of her segment I had seen The View that I posted above. This is no way to treat a guest on your program. I felt a little bad about posting the picture but Sigourney should also know to wear a longer skirt, and some panties wouldn't hurt. People of The View, buy a new couch!!

On another note, I realize (as does everyone else I think) that The View is Barbara Walter's pet project. It's her show and she kind of "rules the roost" if you will. I'm fine with that. I like Barbara and what she has done with her career is truly remarkable and she deserves the utmost respect. That said, could someone get her to stop using her program as a 1 hour infomercial for her latest special or her book or whatever other gig she may have on the side. Commercial advertising was created to handle that sort of thing. Her self-promotion is embarrassing.

Trying something new

This is a first. I'm going to attempt to maintain a blog. I've never kept a diary and certainly have never "shared" my daily life experiences and thoughts publicly. Hopefully this will be a chance to learn more about myself and possibly others as well.

This has been a ridiculously slow time at work. I'm finding it a struggle to keep myself occupied for 8 hours a day. This really needs to change soon or I fear I may be looking for employment like so many others out there. To be honest I should probably look anyway. I've been at the same company for 12 years now. I fear failure and hate fear. It's odd because I've never truly failed at anything in my life.

I'll write more tomorrow... it's time for me to head home.
